Tompei Adventures in Flash development

Adobe Max 2009 : Flash plateform expansion

Adobe will soon solve both sides of the equation catering both to designers and developers with Flash Catalyst, a design tool to rapidly prototype and build application interfaces and interactive content.

Flash Catalyst will enable artwork created in Adobe Creative Suite 4 to be imported and converted into components. It will catalyze the effort for design and development to allow designers and developers to work more closely. Still in alpha stage, it should be available as a beta on Adobe Labs early next year.

Adobe AIR is a core component of the Adobe Flash Platform that enables developers to deliver rich Internet applications outside the browser. Version 1.5 brings new features and performance enhancements. It includes the open source WebKit engine and accelerates application performance with "SquirrelFish," the new WebKit JavaScript interpreter. Adobe AIR 1.5 also includes a new encrypted database that meets enterprise security compliance requirements. Additionally, AIR 1.5 includes functionality introduced in Adobe Flash Player 10, such as support for custom filters and effects, native 3-D transformation and animation, and extensible rich text layout.

Adobe also announced a public beta its cloud computing solution codenamed Cocomo, a platform-as-a-service solution. Comprised of both Flex-based client components and a hosted services infrastructure, Cocomo allows developers to build real-time, multiuser applications and easily add social capabilities into their RIAs. Acrobat.com hosts the service taking care of deployment, maintenance and scalability.

SAP announced that it is enabling developers to take advantage of Flex components to develop rich user interfaces for SAP applications. Zend announced the new 1.7 release of Zend Framework supports Adobe Action Message Format (AMF). It enables developers to optimize data communication between Zend Framework server-side PHP components and client-side Adobe Flex components.

FITC 2008 Amsterdam

Fun !

Amazing technical and creative presentations !

Many canals !! So many bikes !!!

Aral Balkan started it all taking us on a tour of cutting edge Flash and Flex and journey beyond the Flash world to find inspiration in the trends and trendsetters from the greater web. Video, 3D, open data, APIs, mashups, accessibility, development processes, application architecture, usability, social networks, open source, providing us with ideas and inspiration to spark our creative endeavors.

Joshua Davis touched my heart showing us a deep generous variety of his works involving computer generated graphics content. You can download his presentation.

Eric Natzke touched my spirit diving into the more personal aspects and functions of his creative process, going beyond the knowledge showing us the art of play. The result was beyond my expectations.

Branden Hall touched my mind introducing us to the varieties of uses of the different kind of jigs used in craftsmanship, and their counterparts in the art of coding. Jigs are wonderful tools to learn to work faster and better. More on how to work smarter, not harder on www.automatalabs.com

James Paterson offered us an inspiring break from the frenziness buzing around all the technical workshops, in teaching us the design of user generated random drawing and animation tools through his former experiments at Presstube and various collaborations.

Data visualization made nice and easy with Flex according Nicolas Lierman www.aboutnico.be, who developped the awesome Google Analytics suite for Air, showing us the tools of the trade of the hidden API and the data visualization components. Code to be released soon on Google Code.

André Michelle did a wonderfull audio application based on wonderful thinking and trickery. More to follow blog.andre-michelle.com

Red 5 server is an effecient flash media content server running on java and being a kickass bitch at live streaming. Chris Allen insisted on Red 5 Server being fast and easy to set up. He showed us how to do it, and to extend it throught the ApplicationAdapter class. John Grden developped an interesting Javasound API going from Midi to Flash exchanging RTMF.

Showreels are great tools for extending brand recognition and value. Nicolai Cornell is a seasoned creative technology director well known for his use of interactive displays in exhibitions, art works and experiments. Big Spaceship was introduced to us as a truly digital creative agency by his founding partner and minister of technology Joshua Hirsch. So I wish I could have seen the inside view of Northern Kingdom by Illic Philstrom, but I was in heavy dutty with Red 5 !
